Speaker Töre hosts Iain Duncan Smith at BRTK

President Zorlu Töre of the Republican Assembly recently welcomed Conservative Party MP Iain Duncan Smith, who is advocating for direct flights between the UK and the TRNC. The meeting took place at the Republican Assembly Hall of Honor, where President Töre emphasized that the division of Cyprus was not caused by their actions but by the Greek-Greek duo. He asserted that if punishment was to be meted out, it should be directed towards Southern Cyprus.
President Töre expressed his commitment to the two-state solution, believing that the island of Cyprus could accommodate Turks, Greeks, and the British base areas. He also proposed expanding the Green Line Regulation and collaborating on economic matters.
Furthermore, President Töre advocated for direct flights to Ercan Airport, urging the UK, as a guarantor country, to facilitate this initiative. Conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of addressing the issue of property investments and ensuring equal representation and rights for all parties involved.
Smith emphasized the need for a fair and just resolution to the ongoing disputes, citing the Anglo-Saxon legal system’s principles of equality and fairness. He urged both sides to work towards a sustainable solution that protects the rights of all stakeholders and prevents further injustices.
Following their discussions, Conservative Party MP Iain Duncan Smith toured the General Assembly of the Republican Assembly with President Töre and concluded the visit with a souvenir photo. The meeting between the two representatives signifies a step towards fostering diplomatic ties and addressing key issues affecting the TRNC and the UK.
