
Special Advisor to the President Güler Presents on Turkish Cypriot Diaspora at International Symposium in Erzincan

Special Advisor to the President Gökhan Güler recently attended the “1st International Turkish Diaspora Symposium in the Turkey Century” held in Erzincan. The symposium, which took place on 14-16 October, focused on various topics related to immigration, media, diplomacy, non-governmental organizations, lobbying, and more.
During the two-day event, discussions revolved around soft power, Islamophobia, history, culture, art, education, diaspora, trade, international relations, economy, theology, and law. Representatives of the Turkish diaspora from around the world, particularly from Western countries, gathered to work towards common goals.
At the conclusion of the symposium, a significant “Declaration on Combating Islamophobia-Turkophobia” was signed by Erzincan Governor Hamza Aydoğdu, Erzincan Mayor Bekir Aksun, and Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Rector Prof. Dr. Akın Levent.
During the first day of the symposium, Gökhan Güler gave a presentation on the “Turkish Cypriot Diaspora”. He highlighted the origins of Turkish Cypriot diasporas across the world, particularly in Turkey, England, and Australia, tracing back to the historical events between 1878 and 1960 on the island. Güler emphasized the need for stronger institutional connections among Turkish Cypriot diasporas globally and called for the urgent establishment of organized structures in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In his closing remarks, Güler stressed the importance of developing strategies to strengthen ties between Turkish Cypriot diasporas and other Turkish diasporas from various regions. His presentation shed light on the challenges and opportunities facing the Turkish Cypriot diaspora community, urging for collaborative efforts in the diaspora landscape.
Overall, the symposium provided a platform for in-depth discussions and collaborations among representatives of the Turkish diaspora, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose in addressing common issues.
