Specialist Sergeant Öztürk, martyr, honored on final journey
A funeral has been held in Turkey for Martyr Infantry Specialist Sergeant Yunus Öztürk, who was killed in action in the southeastern province of Şırnak. Öztürk’s body was flown by military plane to Bandırma 6th Main Jet Base before being taken to his father’s home village of Gönen Rüstem. The funeral was attended by a number of prominent figures including President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, Balıkesir Governor Hasan Şıldak, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, and Gönen Mayor İbrahim Palaz, as well as military officers, families of martyrs and many citizens. During the funeral, Öztürk’s parents were seen struggling to stand and his sister was in tears. Following the funeral prayer at the Çarşı Mosque, the late soldier was buried in the Gönen martyrdom.
