Speculation Arises Over Holes in Crashed Kazakh Passenger Plane
Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crashes in Kazakhstan, Killing 38 People
A tragic incident unfolded as an Azerbaijan Airlines plane deviated hundreds of kilometers off course and attempted an emergency landing in Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, the landing was unsuccessful, resulting in the plane catching fire and crashing to the ground. Authorities in Kazakhstan confirmed that out of the 67 people on board, 38 lost their lives while 29 were rescued and treated for injuries.
The plane, an Embraer 190 aircraft, was en route from Baku to Grozny when it made the emergency landing near Aktau, a city on the Caspian Sea. Disturbing footage from the crash site shows the plane descending rapidly and bursting into flames upon impact. The wreckage showed the fuselage torn apart from the wings, with the aircraft lying upside down in the grass.
Speculation arose regarding the cause of the crash, with some suggesting that it may have been due to GPS interference. Russian military bloggers and aviation analysts pointed to holes in the fuselage, indicating a possible mid-air collision. It was later revealed that an oxygen tank on the plane exploded, leading to further speculation of an encounter with Russian air defenses.
Russian authorities reportedly took control of the airspace where the plane was flying off its planned route. Claims were made that the damage to the aircraft resembled that of an anti-aircraft missile attack, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
In the wake of the tragedy, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev cut short his trip to Russia, where he was attending a summit, to return home. Russian President Putin expressed his condolences to President Aliyev in light of the devastating crash.
As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, the aviation community mourns the loss of 38 lives and extends sympathies to the families of the victims.
