Springtime in Istanbul: The Pink Moon Phenomenon
The Pink Moon, known as the harbinger of spring, graced the skies of Türkiye last night and set at 06:24 in the morning. This special phenomenon is observed in many parts of the country, marking the arrival of the new season.
In Istanbul, the Pink Moon created unique and symbolic images, especially along the Üsküdar coast with the iconic Maiden’s Tower illuminated by the Full Moon. People in various parts of the city were able to witness this awe-inspiring sight.
But why is it called the Pink Full Moon? Despite its name, the moon does not actually appear pink. The name originates from the traditional name given by indigenous tribes in North America, particularly the Algonquin tribe, who were inspired by the Pink Wild Flowers (Moss Phlox) that bloom in the spring. This full moon symbolizes the rebirth of nature and the coming of spring.
