Prime Minister Ünal Üstel Visits KAMU-SEN and Emphasizes Importance of Dialogue with Unions
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel recently paid a visit to the Cyprus Turkish Public Officials Union (KAMU-SEN) as part of his ongoing visits to civil society organizations. During the visit, KAMU-SEN President Metin Atan expressed his gratitude for Üstel’s presence, stating, “We were happy to host you, you honored us.”
Atan highlighted the significance of the Union of National Unity Party (UBP) as a large political entity and likened the atmosphere of their congress to that of a general election. He also mentioned that they closely followed Üstel’s manifesto and looked forward to learning more details during the visit.
In response, Üstel emphasized the importance of maintaining an open dialogue with all segments of society since taking office. He reiterated the government’s commitment to constructive engagement with unions, stating, “We have always been in a constructive dialogue with the unions.”
Üstel went on to outline several measures taken by the government to support public employees, such as increasing purchasing power through tax regulations and adjustments to the immigration law. He also noted improvements in cost of living allowances and average salary enhancements to combat inflation. Additionally, Üstel mentioned a promise to reduce taxes on the minimum wage to zero, resulting in an increase to the EU average.
Overall, the visit to KAMU-SEN served as a platform for discussions on key issues affecting public employees and highlighted the government’s efforts to address these concerns through collaboration with unions and other stakeholders.
