State Department Official Resigns Amidst Biden Administration’s Gaza Policy
Multiple US officials have recently resigned from their positions in protest against the Biden administration’s policies regarding the situation in Gaza. The latest resignation came from Gilbert, who was a Ministry employee and expressed his disagreement with the US State Department report that claimed Israel did not block aid to Gaza. This report led to Gilbert’s resignation, as it supported the Biden administration’s decision to continue sending aid to Israel.
In addition to Gilbert, other officials such as Lily Greenberg Call, Major Harrison Mann, Aaron Bushnell, Josh Paul, and Annelle Sheline have also stepped down from their roles due to their opposition to the administration’s stance on Gaza. Greenberg Call, who is of Jewish origin and previously supported Biden’s vision for a better America, stated that she could no longer represent the administration due to its support for Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Similarly, Mann, who served in the US military for 13 years and has a Jewish background, expressed his shame and guilt over the ongoing violence in Gaza, which he believes is perpetuated by the US’s unconditional support for Israel. Bushnell’s drastic protest outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, where he set himself on fire to denounce the genocide, highlights the severity of the situation.
The series of resignations by these officials reflects a growing discontent within the US government over its policies related to Gaza. The criticisms voiced by these individuals underscore the need for a reevaluation of the US approach to the conflict and the humanitarian crisis in the region.
