State Secretary Discusses Hungary’s Defense Transformation
Hungary is making strides in transforming its defence capabilities by focusing on the development of its territorial forces, according to Zsolt Kutnyánszky, the state secretary for defence policy. Speaking at a recruitment event at the Steel Plate Airsoft Festival in Budapest, Kutnyánszky emphasized the importance of signing up reserve soldiers who will play a crucial role in enhancing Hungary’s military readiness.
Recruits who join the Hungarian armed forces as reserve soldiers can expect a range of benefits, including a monthly pay of 150,000 forints (EUR 382) along with a one-year retainer payment of 600,000 forints before tax. Additionally, recruits who help increase the number of reservists can receive a recommendation bonus of 500,000 forints up to three times a year, as well as a daily allowance during their call-up period.
For higher education students who serve during their studies, there are further incentives such as a scholarship ranging from 160,000 to 350,000 forints per month, extra admission points, and opportunities for advancement leading to higher salary and rank within the armed forces.
Kutnyánszky also highlighted the recent investments in Hungary’s military, including the acquisition of three additional Leopard tanks and the production of the first Hungarian-made Lynx vehicle in Zalaegerszeg. Furthermore, the inauguration of a medium-caliber ammunition factory in Varpalota signifies Hungary’s commitment to building a modern and effective army.
These developments underscore Hungary’s dedication to strengthening its defence capabilities and ensuring the protection of its national security. With ongoing investments and recruitment efforts, Hungary is poised to enhance its military readiness and contribute to regional and international security efforts.
