Statement from Diyarbakır Governorate on Reports of Finding Narin Güran’s Body

The community in the rural Tavşantepe Neighborhood of Bağlar district is reeling from the disappearance of Narin Güran, an 8-year-old girl who went missing after attending a Quran course on the afternoon of August 21. Her family became increasingly worried when she did not return home after the course, prompting her father, Arif Güran, to report her missing to the police at 20:15 that same evening.

Upon receiving the report, a massive search operation was launched involving various law enforcement and rescue teams, including the Bağlar District Gendarmerie Command, Gendarmerie Special Operations Teams, and search and rescue teams from district municipalities. A gendarmerie helicopter was deployed to provide air support, while approximately 150 vehicles passing by the road during the time of Narin’s disappearance were questioned.

During the search, a child’s slipper was found on the roadside about 3 kilometers from the Güran family’s home. Although initially believed to belong to Narin, further examination revealed that the slipper had a different number. Despite this, the search for Narin continued diligently.

Rumors circulating on social media claiming that Narin’s body had been found were promptly debunked by the Diyarbakır Governorship. In a statement, the governor’s office emphasized that a comprehensive search operation was ongoing to locate the missing girl and urged the public not to believe unfounded rumors.

As the search for Narin Güran enters its third day, the community remains hopeful for her safe return, while authorities continue their efforts to locate her.
