Statement from Ministry of Youth and Sports Regarding Dormitory Facilities

The Ministry has issued a statement in response to comments made by Özgür Özel, Chairman of the Main Opposition Party, during the CHP Group Meeting. Özel claimed that only 13 out of 100 students in Turkey are accommodated in dormitories, leaving the remaining 87 to fend for themselves. He also mentioned that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality did not have any dormitories, which was contradicted by the Ministry.

According to the Ministry’s statement, 96 out of every 100 students who apply for dormitories are provided with accommodation. In Istanbul, there are 80 dormitory buildings across 35 dormitory directorates, with a total capacity of 60 thousand students. Contrary to Özel’s claim, there are actually 14 dormitories in Istanbul operated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, not 61. These dormitories have a total capacity of 5231 beds, with 4031 students currently accommodated and 1200 beds available.

The Ministry emphasized that the comments made by Özel do not align with the reality and are misleading the public deliberately. It is important to provide accurate information about student dormitories to ensure transparency and prevent misinformation.

In other news, the offer of additional resources for defense has been postponed, as announced by AK Party’s Güler. The High Advisory Board also recently convened under the chairmanship of President Erdoğan, focusing on topics related to family institutions and the measures needed to address emerging challenges.
