Step-by-Step Guide to Voting: Tips from YSK
Transparent ballot boxes and ballot papers to be used in the upcoming elections on May 14 were introduced to the press at the YSK Presidency. A representative voting booth was also established to showcase the voting process. The ballot paper for the presidential candidates include Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the first place, followed by Muharrem İnce in second place, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in third place, and Sinan Ogan in fourth place.
Voters will only be able to vote in the ballot boxes where they are registered and assigned. The process of voting will start with the voter being taken in front of the ballot box committee by the chairman of the ballot box one by one. Pregnant, sick, and disabled individuals will be allowed to cast their votes without waiting, as well as the elderly. Security forces assigned to the election will also be allowed to participate in voting without delay.
Voters will need to provide one of the official documents with pictures, such as their identification card or passport, to reveal their identity. Identity documents issued and approved by municipalities and village or neighborhood headmen will not be valid in determining the identity of the voter. After the name of the voter is found in the ballot box voters list by the appointed member, voters will be able to cast their votes by stamping their preferred candidate or party on the combined ballot paper.
Visually impaired, paralyzed, physically disabled, or illiterate voters will be assisted by one of their relatives or any other voter around the ballot box. The voting period will be between 08.00 – 17.00 on Sunday, May 14, across the country, and 24 political parties and 151 independent parliamentary candidates across Turkey will enter the Parliamentary General Elections.
The Nation Party ranked first in the ballot paper for the General Elections for the Deputy, followed by the Rights and Freedoms Party in second place, and the Communist Party of Turkey in third place. The Republican People’s Party was in the 21st place, followed by the IYI Party in 22nd place, the Justice Party in 23rd place, and the Victory Party in 24th place. These upcoming elections are crucial for the future of Turkey and its political landscape.
