Stranded in Balıkesir: 12-hour Drift to Ambarlı Port
The RoRo ship named ‘Istanbul N’ encountered an unexpected engine failure while en route from Bandırma to Ambarlı. The ferry departed from Çelebi Port in the Bandırma district of Balıkesir with 68 vehicles and 68 passengers and drifted off the coast of Marmara Island for over 12 hours before a rescue tugboat arrived.
Despite the efforts of the ship’s crew to address the issue, the cause of the engine failure could not be resolved, leading to the ferry being stranded near Marmara Island. The General Directorate of Coastal Safety has announced that the ferry will be towed to the Ambarlı Port by a rescue tugboat.
The KURTARMA-2 Tugboat, accompanied by the KIYEM-4 Boat, are currently assisting in towing the ferry to safety under the coordination of the Vessel Traffic and Pilotage Service (GTH) center. The passengers and vehicles on board the ferry are expected to reach their destination safely once the towing operation is completed.
