Strategic Talks: EPP President Manfred Weber Meets with Péter Magyar to Discuss Tisza Party’s Potential Joining

Manfred Weber, the leader of the European People’s Party (EPP) in the European Parliament, and Péter Magyar, the deputy leader of the newly formed Respect and Freedom (Tisza) party, met in Budapest on Friday to discuss Tisza’s potential joining of the EPP group and the cooperation possibilities between the two parties.
During their meeting, the Tisza party expressed its intention to formalize its bid to join the EPP at an upcoming meeting next week. In a statement, Hungarian reiterated the party’s commitment to working constructively within the EPP and the European Parliament to serve the interests of Hungarian voters and to address the issues currently delaying the release of EU funds to Hungary.
The Tisza party also clarified that the EPP and Manfred Weber do not hold a pro-war stance, contrary to claims made by government propaganda. Weber reportedly denied statements attributed to him by ruling Fidesz regarding the reintroduction of compulsory military service.
Describing the meeting as “historic,” Magyar emphasized that it marks the beginning of a new and prosperous relationship between the Tisza party and the EPP. The discussions between the two parties signal a potential alignment on key issues and a willingness to collaborate for the benefit of their constituents.
The engagement between the EPP and Tisza party reflects a notable development in European political dynamics, with possibilities for closer cooperation and shared objectives on the horizon. The outcome of their discussions could have significant implications for the future direction of both parties within the European Parliament.
