Streamlining Border Operations: Kazakh-Chinese Customs Embrace Digital Solutions
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov recently visited the Nur Zholy Customs Service international transport and logistics center in the Zhetisu Region on Aug. 19. The center is utilizing cross-docking technology and an automated vehicle accounting system to streamline transit processes and enhance cargo turnover.
According to the Prime Minister’s press service, the volume of goods transported by road in the region has seen a significant increase from 55.7% in January to 101.1% in June.
During his visit, Bektenov inaugurated the Dostyk Customs Service temporary storage warehouse to facilitate swift customs processing at the Alakol checkpoint and enhance throughput. He also toured the Dostyk TransTerminal multifunctional cargo handling terminal, which features multiple railway tracks of varying gauges.
Future plans for the center include expanding the multifunctional cargo handling terminal and acquiring specialized equipment to further enhance operations.
Following his inspection of the facility, Bektenov emphasized the importance of developing the transport and logistics sector and expanding infrastructure to accommodate the growing cargo flow in the region. He praised the success of digital solutions like cross-docking and suggested implementing similar technologies in other areas.
Bektenov expressed his vision of Kazakhstan becoming a key transit hub in Eurasia, leveraging partnerships with Azerbaijan and Georgia. He highlighted the significance of improving the Dostyk-Moiynty railway connection to boost transportation efficiency.
Bilateral trade between China and Kazakhstan has seen a 30% increase over the past year, totaling $31.5 billion. Simplification of customs procedures is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a pivotal transit corridor within the region.
