Turkmenistan Delegation Visits South Korea to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
From July 17 to 21, 2023, a high-level delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Mr. Baymyrat Annamammedov, visited the Republic of Korea. The purpose of the visit was to enhance bilateral relations and promote cooperation between the two countries.
The Turkmen delegation comprised of senior government officials from various sectors of the Turkmen economy. These officials held discussions with representatives from both the government and private organizations of South Korea. The delegation included heads of key government entities such as the State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag City, the Ashgabat City Administration, the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya,” the State Bank of Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Industry and Construction Production of Turkmenistan, among others.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation engaged in fruitful talks with the Prime Minister of South Korea, Mr. Han Duck-soo. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of relations between Turkmenistan and South Korea, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a regular and credible dialogue that benefits both countries. The leaders highlighted the level of trust, mutual respect, and equality that characterizes the bilateral political and diplomatic relations. They also emphasized the shared interest in further developing cooperation in trade, economy, culture, and humanitarian areas. The discussion covered important issues of intergovernmental cooperation as well.
In addition to meeting with the Prime Minister, the Turkmen delegation also had a productive meeting with Mr. Lee Chang Yang, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy of South Korea. The discussions focused on the political, trade, economic, energy, cultural, and humanitarian fields. The participants reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and identified specific directions for future cooperation.
Enhancing trade and economic relations between the two countries was a significant point of discussion. Both sides emphasized the importance of their ongoing positive economic ties and explored opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as energy, chemical industry, healthcare, textile, transport, and communication.
Furthermore, the Turkmen delegation held meetings with various government entities and companies in South Korea, including but not limited to Export-Import Bank of Korea “KEXIM,” Korea Trade Insurance Corporation “K-SURE,” “Hyundai Engineering,” “Hyundai Corporation,” “LX International Corp.,” “Omnisystem Co. Ltd,” Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI), and various medical product manufacturing companies. These meetings further solidified the foundation for collaboration and fostered greater understanding between the two nations.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also had the opportunity to visit factories and industrial complexes in different cities of South Korea. This allowed them to gain insight into the capabilities and production management of these facilities and explore potential areas of cooperation.
The visit of the Turkmenistan delegation to South Korea marks another step in the deepening of bilateral relations between the two countries. The meetings and discussions held during the visit have strengthened mutual understanding and provided a platform for future collaboration. The commitment to maintaining a regular and credible dialogue reflects the shared determination to advance cooperation in diverse areas and benefit both nations.
