Cooperative Officers Union Suspends Strike at Turkish Cypriot Central Bank
In a recent development, the Cooperative Officers Union (Koop-Sen) has announced the suspension of a warning strike across all branches of the Turkish Cypriot Central Bank. This decision comes in light of ongoing issues surrounding the collective bargaining agreement that sparked the initial strike action.
Koop-Sen President Mehmetali Güröz, in a statement, outlined that the suspension was achieved following discussions facilitated by Dural Güçlüsoy, the Undersecretary of the Prime Minister, along with the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the General Manager of the Central Bank. The meeting resulted in a productive dialogue, leading to points of reconciliation on key issues.
Güröz noted, "We reached a crucial reconciliation point with the Bank Chairman and General Manager due to the request from the board of directors, which allowed us to suspend our strike." However, he emphasized that this suspension is contingent upon the ongoing cooperation from the Bank’s Board of Directors; the strike will be reinstated indefinitely should there be any contrary decisions made by the board.
This development marks a significant move toward resolving the labor disputes within the Central Bank, as both sides appear committed to further negotiations to ensure a fair and equitable work environment for the employees.
