“Students Create High-Speed Vehicle, Reaches 100 km in 3 Seconds”
Kocaeli University’s ‘Kouformula Student’ team, consisting of 65 students from various departments, is working towards representing Turkey in engineering competitions globally. The team produces electric and gasoline formula vehicles, with the electric vehicle named ‘KOUFS-03E’ reaching 100 kilometers in just 3 seconds and the gasoline vehicle ‘KOUFS-03’ reaching just under 4 seconds. Team captain Alper Özay stated that they are working vigorously to participate in the Formula Student competition to be held in Italy in July.
The team was founded in 2015 and produced its first racing vehicle in 2017, an internal combustion vehicle. However, due to sponsorship issues, they could not take it to the Italy race. Nevertheless, the team did not give up and started producing a second vehicle in 2022, taking it to Italy and becoming the first Turkish team to pass the technical inspection and compete in the race.
The team is currently manufacturing two vehicles, one electric and one internal combustion, simultaneously. They have received sponsorship from Tesla for their electric vehicle, making the team genuinely proud. Beril Kolay, the head of the team’s organization department, revealed that despite the difficulty in the preparation process, with the team working every day, everyone is happy and satisfied with the situation.
The Kocaeli University ‘Kouformula Student’ team demonstrates the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and passion; these qualities have given the students an invaluable experience before graduation, ultimately leading them to find jobs in well-known companies with ease.
