Sudan’s Displaced Population Surges to 2.8 Million, Reveals UN

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently released data on the humanitarian situation in Sudan since the conflict began on April 15th.

According to the statement, 15 humanitarian aid workers have lost their lives in Sudan over the past 11 weeks. The conflict has also led to the displacement of 2.8 million people, with 2.2 million internally displaced and 615 thousand people fleeing to neighboring countries.

Despite the challenges, the statement highlighted that life-saving aid has been provided to over 2.5 million people in Sudan.

Local authorities report that the loss of life in Sudan has reached 1133, and more than 11,796 people have been injured.

The conflict in Sudan arises from clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (HDK). The army, which once supported the HDK, now sees it as a threat due to its independent and parallel army actions. The Sudanese army has demanded that the HDK be fully integrated into the army within 2 years. Initially, the HDK expressed willingness to consider integration after a civilian government was established, but this disagreement escalated into armed conflict in the capital city of Khartoum and other cities on April 15th.

On a positive note, Army Commander General Abdulfettah al-Burhan and HDK Commander Muhammed Hamdan Dagalu recently declared a ceasefire for the first day of Eid al-Adha, providing a temporary pause in the fighting.
