Summer Delayed: June 10 Weather Forecast

Many are starting to wonder if summer will ever arrive in Turkey this year as cool and rainy weather persists. With schools getting ready to close and families planning their holidays, experts are predicting what kind of weather Turkey can expect in the coming months.
According to meteorologist Dr. Instructor Member Güven Özdemir, despite the expectation that hot weather will gradually take effect in Turkey’s coastal regions and inland areas in June, the beginning of summer, it is inevitable that the rainy and cool weather will continue, and temperatures will be below seasonal normals in some places. It is predicted that this trend will continue throughout June.
However, climate scientist Dr. Okan Bozyurt notes that this rainy start to summer is normal, called “the rain of forty-knock.” He also says that this year is one where these rains reach the ceiling and that if the months of May and June of a year are below the seasonal normals, the next winter is generally very rainy and cold, but this year there is a different situation – the EL NINO event is taking place.
El Nino raises the average temperature and will show itself in July, according to Dr. Bozyurt. Turkey will start to feel the heat from August, and September could even be the hottest September in recent years. In short, summer may come and go late this year in Turkey.
