Supermarathon Launches Running Season at Lake Balaton
The 196-kilometer Balaton Supermarathon, organized by the Budapest Sports Office, is set to kick off today, running until Sunday. Over 2,000 participants from 20 countries will take part in this epic event that sees runners, chaperones, and organizers circling Lake Balaton.
This year, 250 dedicated runners have signed up to complete the distance in one go, including eight individuals who are gearing up for their 15th Balaton Supermarathon. The participants will cover the following distances on each day of the event:
– Siófok to Fonyód (48.45 km) on Thursday
– Fonyód to Szigliget (53.2 km) on Friday
– Badacsony to Balatonfüred (43.6 km) on Saturday
– Balatonfüred to Siófok (51.2 km) on Sunday
Árpád Said Kocsis, Managing Director of the Budapest Sports Office, described the Balaton Supermarathon as a spring celebration of movement, offering a unique opportunity for runners to enjoy a fantastic atmosphere in a beautiful setting along the shores of Lake Balaton. He emphasized that the event is not only for seasoned runners but also for newcomers looking to experience the thrill of the marathon.
In addition to the individual distances, the four-day running ‘festival’ also provides the option for participants to run in pairs or teams, enabling them to cover daily sections around Lake Balaton. Those joining for just one day can opt for the Marathon+ category to run the day’s distance separately.
For weekend runners, the Half Balaton Supermarathon offers a 96-kilometer stage starting in Badacsony on Saturday and ending in Siófok on Sunday, which can be completed individually, in pairs, or as a team.
Special races and activities will be held at different locations throughout the event, adding an extra layer of excitement and challenge for the participants. The event will culminate with the 15-kilometer Balaton Supermarathon ‘Front-Runner’ in Siófok, where all runners will cross the finish line together.
