Hungarians Stand Behind Transcarpathian Community in Western Ukraine
The Hungarian government has expressed its unwavering support for the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, located in western Ukraine. Miklós Panyi, a state secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office for policy and strategic affairs, made the statement on Saturday while welcoming families at a camp organized by the Rákóczi Association in Sátoraljaújhely, northeastern Hungary.
Panyi highlighted the collaborative efforts of government bodies, municipalities, aid groups, and churches, both within and outside Hungary, in providing assistance to Transcarpathian Hungarians. The government has extended various forms of support, including educational aid, wage subsidies, financing for churches and civil organizations, and grants for the humanitarian activities of aid groups.
According to Panyi, the government remains committed to supporting Transcarpathian Hungarians across the board.
The camp in Sátoraljaújhely has welcomed 200 parents and children from western Ukraine, allowing them to take a respite from the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in the region.
Csongor Csáky, the head of the Rákóczi Association, announced that the organization is planning to hold 100 programs this year specifically focused on Hungarian youth.
