Turkish Foreign Minister Urges Support for Turkish Cypriots in Regaining Rights
In a recent speech at the Informal Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Turkic States, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on member countries to support the Turkish Cypriot people in regaining their inherent rights.
Fidan emphasized the importance of establishing commercial relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and considering direct flights to the region. He stressed that the TRNC is an integral part of the Turkic World and should be represented at a high level in the Organization of Turkic States.
The Turkish Foreign Minister highlighted the need for support from member countries to end the unfair isolation that Turkish Cypriots have faced for decades. He suggested increasing trade relations with the TRNC and establishing a trade office in the region as steps towards this goal.
Fidan also called for more official delegations and tourists from member countries to visit the TRNC, as well as for the consideration of starting direct flights to Ercan Airport. He requested that TRNC officials, including President Tatar and Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu, be invited to member countries for further contacts.
Overall, Fidan’s message was clear: it is crucial for the Organization of Turkic States to support the Turkish Cypriot people and help them regain their rights within the international community.
