Title: Turkey’s Role Crucial in Extending the Grain Aisle Agreement
As the expiration date of the Grain Aisle Agreement approaches, Turkey emerges as a key player in the negotiations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov acknowledged Turkey’s support in finding a middle ground for the extension of the agreement during the Russia-ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Indonesia. Lavrov expressed Russia’s willingness to collaborate with Turkey in processing Russian grain and distributing it to countries in need, irrespective of other agreements.
The European Commission also voiced its support for prolonging the Grain Aisle Agreement. In a statement, the EU emphasized that ensuring Ukrainian grain reaches global markets remains a top priority. The Commission called on all parties to extend the agreement and expressed readiness to explore all possible solutions that contribute to this goal.
Highlighting the significance of Turkey’s contributions, Dr. Cary Fowler, the US administration’s Special Representative for Global Food Security, addressed the issue of Food Safety during a press conference. Fowler noted that Turkey’s efforts have played a vital role in distributing millions of tons of grain worldwide through the Black Sea Grain Initiative. He expressed trust in Turkey’s positive role and expressed the desire for its continued success in this process.
Ensuring the extension of the Grain Aisle Agreement holds immense importance for international trade and food security. All eyes are now on Turkey as it continues to be an instrumental actor in finding a resolution and facilitating the movement of grain to meet global demand.
