
Supreme Court of Justice debates President’s appeal on YÖDAK – BRTK President

The Supreme Court of Justice has decided to open an investigation against the President of the Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation, and Coordination Board (YÖDAK), Turgay Avcı. This decision came after President Ersin Tatar evaluated an application requesting Avcı’s dismissal.
The investigation will be conducted by Senior Judge Gökhan Asafoğulları, who was appointed by the Supreme Court of Justice as the investigating officer. Asafoğulları will request a written defense from Turgay Avcı within fifteen days, in accordance with the laws governing Courts and YÖDAK. After receiving the defense, Asafoğulları will submit a report to the Supreme Council of Justice within thirty days.
If the Council deems it necessary, disciplinary proceedings will begin against Turgay Avcı. The Supreme Judicial Council, consisting of 12 members and chaired by President of the Supreme Court Narin Ferdi Şefik, will evaluate the report and make a decision on prosecution.
President Ersin Tatar announced his application for the dismissal of Turgay Avcı, who is currently detained in connection with the investigation into Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University. The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice marks a significant development in this ongoing case.
