Supreme Court Upholds Sentence for Sacrificial Animal Fraudster

The defendant in a fraud case involving the purchase of sacrificial animals has had their appeal rejected by the Supreme Court of Appeals.

According to the decision of the 11th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals, the defendant had responded to a “cattle for sale” advertisement on the internet in 2018. After contacting the seller and agreeing to purchase the animals for sacrificial purposes, the defendant went to Konya with a rented truck to finalize the deal. Part of the payment was made in cash, while the rest was covered by a check.

However, when the seller tried to cash the check, they discovered that it was fake and filed a criminal complaint. As a result, the defendant was charged with “qualified fraud by using banks or credit institutions as a tool.”

After a trial at the Konya Ereğli High Criminal Court, the defendant was sentenced to 7 years in prison and a 400 thousand lira judicial fine. Despite appealing the decision, the 8th Criminal Chamber of the Konya Regional Court of Justice upheld the sentence.

The 11th Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals reviewed the case and confirmed the sentence, noting that the fake check used in the incident was a key piece of evidence. The decision highlighted that the trial process was conducted correctly and that the appropriate sanctions were applied based on the evidence presented.

In conclusion, the defendant’s appeal has been rejected, and they will serve their sentence for committing fraud.
