Hezbollah Targets Israeli City Safed With Missiles and Drones
Sirens once again pierced the early morning hours on the northern front as Hezbollah clashed with the Israeli army near the Lebanese border. On October 8, Hezbollah fired missiles and kamikaze armed drones targeting the city of Safed.
Israeli air defense systems were activated to intercept the incoming projectiles, but some rockets were able to bypass the defenses. Reports from public broadcaster KAN TV indicated that a building in Dalton, near Safed, was damaged, and fires caused by rockets in Birya Forest had to be extinguished by firefighters.
Hezbollah, Lebanon’s most formidable military force, claimed responsibility for targeting an air base near Safed. Katyusha rockets were launched at the air base, located just 12 kilometers from the border.
In a surprising turn of events, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who had been elusive to Israeli forces for 343 days, sent a letter of thanks and solidarity to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Sinwar, who took over as the leader of Hamas after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, expressed gratitude for Hezbollah’s support in the ongoing conflict.
Reports from Al-Mayadin, a media outlet known for its ties to Hezbollah, stated that Sinwar vowed to continue fighting until the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories ended and an independent state was established with Jerusalem as its capital.
Israel views Yahya Sinwar as the mastermind behind the recent hostilities, as he rose to prominence within Hamas and orchestrated the October 7 raid. Despite Israel’s efforts to capture Sinwar in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas leader has managed to evade capture. Sinwar’s leadership in Hamas was solidified following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, with his selection as the new leader receiving unanimous support.
The escalating tensions between Hezbollah, Hamas, and Israel continue to pose a threat to the region’s stability, with no immediate resolution in sight.
