Survey Reveals Population’s Sporting Habits
More than half of Hungarian adults do not participate in sports, citing reasons such as lack of motivation or time constraints, according to a recent research study on active lifestyles. The survey, conducted by the TÁRKI Social Research Institute between November 2023 and January 2024, involved 1,260 individuals representative of Hungary’s adult population.
During a press conference presenting the survey findings, Máriusz Révész, State Secretary for Active Hungary at the Prime Minister’s Office, emphasized the importance of encouraging physical activity among the population. He acknowledged the challenge of engaging individuals who have never been active before.
One notable aspect highlighted by the survey is the decline in regular exercise participation as individuals age. Additionally, financial status was identified as a significant factor influencing physical activity levels, with a higher percentage of individuals in good financial standing engaging in weekly exercise compared to those in poorer financial situations.
The survey revealed that a significant portion of Hungarian adults have never engaged in sports, with reasons ranging from lack of interest to time constraints and health concerns. However, the study identified an opportunity to target the active and less active dissatisfied populations for potential improvements in exercise participation rates.
Workplaces were recognized as key settings for promoting physical activity and sports among the adult population, with a demand for company gyms and fitness facilities. The results of the research underscore the importance of creating conducive environments for individuals to engage in regular physical activity.
Overall, the findings from the survey provide valuable insights into the exercise habits and barriers faced by Hungarian adults, emphasizing the need for targeted strategies to promote active and healthy lifestyles among the population.
