10-year-old Landen Sturman from Mandurah, Western Australia, had a terrifying brush with danger when he fell on the open dishwasher at home. While preparing food, his foot slid into the machine, and he was injured by a steak knife that ended up in his back.
Thanks to the quick intervention of brain and orthopedic surgeons at the hospital, the knife was successfully removed from Landen’s body. The knife had hit dangerously close to his spinal cord, but a mere ‘millimeter’ made all the difference, saving him from paralysis and avoiding permanent nerve damage.
Doctors have emphasized that just a few millimeters could have resulted in the deepest paralysis for the child. Fortunately, Landen has made a remarkable recovery and has already returned to school. His mother, Emma Sturman, expressed her immense relief at his son’s healthy condition and stressed the importance of learning from such accidents.
