Swedes Skip New Year’s Festivities, Show Solidarity with Palestine
Hundreds of Thousands of People in Sweden Cancel New Year’s Celebrations and Show Support for Palestine
Despite the cold weather, demonstrators gathered in Segels Torg Square in Sweden as a response to the call from various non-governmental organizations in the country. Instead of celebrating the New Year, they mourned the children and civilians killed by Israel.
Carrying banners with messages such as “Free Palestine, free Gaza”, “Stop the genocide” and “Boycott Israel”, the demonstrators marched towards the Swedish Parliament. They called for an immediate end to the attacks on Gaza and chanted slogans like “Free Palestine”, “End the occupation”, and “Murderer Israel”.
Protesters expressed their displeasure towards Sweden and the USA for their support of Israel, claiming that these countries were complicit in the war crimes committed by Israel.
In a statement released by the group, it was emphasized that New Year’s Eve was not a time for celebration, but rather a moment to remember the massacre of children, women, and journalists by Israel. Their goal was to amplify the voices of the Palestinian people and bring attention to the atrocities being committed.
The statement also highlighted the devastating toll of the conflict, noting that over 20 thousand children have been killed by Israel, with some of their bodies even being carried in nylon bags.
As the world reflects on the start of a new year, these demonstrators in Sweden stand in solidarity with Palestine, calling for an end to the violence and injustice plaguing the region.
