Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Official Charged with Murder in Israel

Israeli Strikes in Syria Cause Destruction and Injuries

Israel has launched air strikes on Syria in five different locations in a short period of time, resulting in the almost total destruction of Hama Airport and causing injuries to dozens of civilians and military personnel. The Ministry of Defense released a statement condemning Israel’s attacks on Syrian territory as “violent,” and called on the United Nations to take urgent measures to prevent further violations by the Tel Aviv administration.

On the evening of the attacks, Israeli aircraft carried out more than 14 air strikes on Hama Airport and its surrounding areas, as well as targeting the T4 Military Airport in Homs and a military infrastructure in Damascus. There were also mortar and artillery attacks in the west of the Dera province.

The Israeli Army escalated its occupation of Syrian territory by seizing control of the buffer zone on the Golan Hills on December 8. This area, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, has now seen Israeli troops advancing 20 kilometers towards the capital city of Damascus, pushing the occupation further into Syrian territory.

The buffer zone and weapons-free region on the Golan Hills were established by the 1974 agreement between the two countries. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has declared that the occupation in southern Syria will be permanent and has demanded the disarmament of the region, in direct contradiction to Syria’s sovereignty.

The ongoing Israeli strikes in Syria have only served to deepen the conflict in the region and raise concerns about the escalating violence and destruction. The international community must act swiftly to prevent further harm and work towards a peaceful resolution in Syria.
