Szekler Gallop: Cultural Events and Competitions This Weekend

The Szekler Gallop, a major equestrian event in Szeklerland, is set to take place this weekend at its iconic location, the Óriáspince hilltop in Tricisce near Moacșa (Maksa). The event will kick off with an opening ceremony on Saturday, followed by various competitions and activities.

Teams from different regions will compete in the Góbé Olympia team competition, showcasing their skills in horse racing and other equestrian activities. A children’s concert, show jumping demonstration, and live music performances will also be part of the day’s events. In the afternoon, spectators can enjoy preliminary races for the Children’s Small Horse Race, Góbé Race, and Székely Race, as well as horse wrestling and a performance by the National Equestrian Theater.

Sunday’s schedule includes a horsemanship competition, performances by folk dance groups and medieval reenactment troops, as well as a thrilling greyhound race. The day will culminate in the finals of various races, including the Góbé Run and Székely Parade.

Attendees can look forward to a range of activities throughout the weekend, from craft fairs to petting zoos and horse riding demonstrations. The event will also feature a diverse program for children and families to enjoy, including exhibitions and performances by local artists and groups.

Seventeen settlements have entered horses and riders for the Góbé race, while ten Szeklerland settlements have registered for the Szekler Gallop. The winners of these preliminary races will qualify for the National Gallop, which will be held later in the year at the Lipica Equestrian Center in Szilvasvárad, Northern-Hungary.

Don’t miss out on the excitement and tradition of the Szekler Gallop this weekend, as riders and horses from across the region come together to compete and celebrate the rich equestrian heritage of Szeklerland.
