Szijjártó questions Brussels on ban of Russian oil delivery

Hungary and Slovakia have recently called for action from the European Commission in response to Ukraine’s decision to restrict crude oil deliveries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, took to Facebook to express his concerns, questioning why the EC has not taken any steps in over a week.

Szijjártó criticized Brussels for its silence on the matter, highlighting that the restrictions not only jeopardize the energy security of Hungary and Slovakia but also violate the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. He went on to suggest that Brussels may be hesitant to confront a potential membership candidate or that the idea to restrict oil deliveries originated from the European Commission itself.

Calling on Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission to clarify their stance, Szijjártó demanded answers regarding whether the ban on oil deliveries was requested by Brussels. He emphasized the need for immediate action to address the situation.

As tensions escalate over the oil delivery restrictions, it remains to be seen how the European Commission will respond to the calls for intervention from Hungary and Slovakia. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing issue.
