Tamás Freund remains the Head of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Lajos Vékás, a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Professor Emeritus, has been awarded the most prestigious scientific award in Hungary, the Academic Gold Medal. The award was presented to Vékás at the Hungarian Academy’s annual General Assembly. The two-day event also included a forum for external members, during which Tamás Freund, President of the Academy, praised scientists living beyond Hungary for their role in the Academy’s life. Freund also called for greater cooperation between the Academy and the government to create a stable and efficient national research system. The General Assembly included lectures from Nobel Prize-winning astrophysicist Didier Queloz and discussions on the importance of improving the career opportunities of women and supporting public education.
