Tanju Özcan’s Ambitious Trek: Walking from Bolu to Ankara CHP Headquarters

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who was temporarily expelled from the CHP (Republican People’s Party) for his remarks to a female AK Party member, has returned to the party after the expulsion period ended. Özcan, who made a call for ‘Change’ to CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, was recently sent to the disciplinary committee with a definite expulsion request for the second time.
Last year, Tanju Özcan faced backlash for his comment towards Hacer Çınar, an AK Party member who raised her hand at a city council meeting. Özcan asked her, “Why are you waving at me? I’m a married man, it’s a shame.” As a result of these statements, he was temporarily expelled from the party for one year by the CHP.
However, after the temporary expulsion period expired, Özcan returned to the CHP 9 days ago. Since his return, he has been advocating for change within the party. Recently, CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Faik Öztrak announced that Tanju Özcan has been referred to the disciplinary committee with a definite expulsion request for the second time.
In response to this, Tanju Özcan expressed that he was not surprised by the decision. He criticized Kılıçdaroğlu for calling President Erdoğan a dictator while refusing to give up his own seat. As a demonstration of his demand for change and justice, Özcan announced that he will march from Bolu Square to Ankara’s CHP Headquarters on July 3.
The situation surrounding Tanju Özcan’s expulsion from the party remains ongoing, and it will be interesting to see how the CHP responds to his call for change.
