Tanker Grounded in Istanbul – Urgent Update
A tanker ran aground in Istanbul due to the storm that hit the city in the evening, causing strong southwest winds. The tanker, named “Kadriye Ana”, was anchored in the Ahırkapı anchorage area when it ran aground due to the powerful winds. The captain of the tanker urgently called for help from the rescue teams, who immediately responded to the distress call.
The 80-meter-long Kadriye Ana tanker is registered as a petrochemical ship, but it is not yet known whether it was full at the time of the incident. The storm also caused sea water to flood in Ortaköy, with waves dragging garbage onto the shore and forming giant waves on the Silivri coast.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, some citizens visiting Ortaköy still tried to take photos with the waves. Additionally, a boat sank on the Kartal Dragos coast as a result of the storm.
The rescue teams are continuing their efforts to save the ship’s personnel, and the situation with the tanker is currently being closely monitored.
