Hungary Welcomes 3 Modern Battle Tanks to Armored Brigade

Hungary recently received three of the world’s most modern battle tanks, announced by Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky. The arrival of the new Leopard tanks brings the total number of tanks in the Hungarian Defense Forces’ armored brigade in Tata to 18, as reported by Honvedelem.hu.

In a statement, Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky highlighted the significance of this event, stating that “a new era has begun in the history of Hungarian force development, and the rearmament of the Hungarian armed forces is proceeding according to plan.”

The Leopard 2 A7s are known for their high speed, maneuverability, and reliability in their class. These tanks have an armored body that is 7.7 meters long, with the gun forward turning the length to 10.97 meters. The width without additional armor is 3.76 meters, and the height is 3.03 meters.

According to the Minister of Defense, a total of 44 high-tech military equipment will be delivered to Hungary by 2028, indicating a significant modernization effort in the country’s defense forces.

Industry reports suggest that the Leopard 2 A7 HU tanks are built with reinforced bottoms, front and roof armor, making them resistant to improvised explosive devices and anti-tank mines. The vehicles are also equipped with protection against incendiary liquids and an improved automatic fire extinguishing system.

This development marks a crucial step in enhancing Hungary’s defense capabilities and ensuring the country’s security. The introduction of these modern battle tanks demonstrates Hungary’s commitment to strengthening its armed forces and being prepared for potential threats.
