President Ersin Tatar Meets with UN Special Representative Colin Stewart
President Ersin Tatar recently met with Colin Stewart, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Cyprus and Chief of Mission of the UN Peace Force in Cyprus. The meeting took place as part of Stewart’s series of meetings with leaders before departing to New York, where the UN Headquarters is located, to brief the Security Council. The meeting started at 16:00 in the Presidency, with Stewart being welcomed by the President’s Special Representative Güneş Onar.
Prior to this meeting, President Tatar also met with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, who will present her report to the UN Secretary-General on July 10 in London. President Tatar also took the opportunity to inform political parties in the Parliament about the issue.
Stewart had previously met with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, expressing concern that the pause in Cyprus negotiations could result in increased militarization of the buffer zone. Both leaders are working towards finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Cyprus, and the meetings are seen as crucial steps in achieving this goal.
