Tatar: Opening Haspolat Gate is a logical step for Greek Cypriot side
President Ersin Tatar and the United Nations are continuing their efforts to promote cooperation and positive developments in Cyprus. Tatar recently expressed his belief that the Greek Cypriot side will support the proposal to open a crossing gate in Haspolat, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two parties.
After a constructive meeting with Colin Stewart, the UN’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Tatar highlighted the significance of developing cooperation on mutually beneficial issues. The discussions included the possibility of opening new crossing points, addressing road construction concerns, and preparing for an extended meeting with leaders and guarantor countries in the near future.
Tatar also reiterated the TRNC’s commitment to negotiations based on the principles of sovereign equality and equal international status for Turkish Cypriots. He emphasized the importance of informal talks and partnerships that could benefit both communities, while also noting Turkey’s continued support as a guarantor country in the region.
Stewart echoed Tatar’s sentiments, describing their meeting as constructive and expressing optimism for positive progress on key issues impacting the people of Cyprus. As preparations continue for future meetings and reports to the UN Security Council, both parties are hopeful for a more collaborative and productive approach to resolving longstanding challenges in the region.
