Taxi driver overcharges tourist by not using meter.

Tourist Scammed by Taxi Driver in Istanbul

A taxi driver in Istanbul has been caught after a tourist complained that he was scammed out of 2,750 liras (around $325) for a brief journey. The tourist and his friends, who were Polish and lived in Germany, took a taxi from the Galata Tower to Küçükçekmece, and then returned to Galata in the same taxi. During the trip, driver Salih E. did not turn on the meter and instead demanded the large fee from the tourists. When they objected, Salih E. reduced the price to 1,000 liras and then disappeared. The tourists complained to the Taksim tourism police, who contacted the Istanbul traffic teams. The taxi was caught and Salih E. denied the accusations, but was fined 4,064 liras and had his license and driver card revoked after the incident.
