Teachers Gear Up for New Curriculum – Latest Updates from Milliyet

The new Turkey Century Education Model is set to be implemented starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, with the new curriculum being gradually introduced beginning on September 9. This implementation will start with pre-school, 1st grade in primary school, 5th grade in middle school, and 9th grade in high school.

The circular outlining the implementation of the model was signed by the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin. Trainer trainings for the Turkey Century Education Model began on June 3, with teacher trainings set to take place between September 2-6, 2024 under the coordination of provincial directorates of national education.

During the mid-term break of the first semester, theoretical and practical training will be provided to teachers at all levels of education. This training, conducted by teachers who have received a trainer training certificate, aims to enhance teaching skills and align with the objectives of the Turkey Century Maarif Model.

In accordance with the model, measurement and evaluation practices will be process-oriented and developmental, with a focus on in-class measurement practices. No province, district, or school-wide exams will be held during the academic year, except for in-class assessments designed to evaluate students’ academic success and facilitate healthy competition.

To further support teachers in adopting the new Education Model, the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education is organizing ‘Maarif Model Istanbul Summer Workshops’. These workshops cover various topics such as the Algorithm of Thinking, Science History Talks, and Design-Oriented Thinking, creating a collaborative environment for professional development.

Teachers who have participated in the workshops expressed their commitment to applying the new teachings in their classrooms. Esat Samet Altun, a classroom teacher providing Thinking School training, emphasized the holistic approach of the Maarif Model in developing innate skills and critical thinking among students.

Overall, the transition to the Turkey Century Education Model is seen as a positive step towards enhancing the quality of education in Turkey, with teachers actively engaging in training sessions to better equip themselves for the implementation of the new curriculum.
