Tenant Converts 4 Houses into Hostels for 27-bed Flat

Police in Istanbul have uncovered a human smuggling operation in the Avcılar district, leading to the arrest of an illegal real estate agent who was renting out flats to house illegal immigrants. The investigation revealed that the agent, known as MA, had placed beds in multiple rooms, including the balcony, to accommodate the immigrants before their illegal passage to Europe.
Authorities raided the rented flats and discovered 23 illegal immigrants, who were promptly taken into custody. The Istanbul Police Department Anti-Immigrant Smuggling and Border Gates Branch Directorate also sealed the flats to prevent further illegal activities.
Further investigations led to the discovery of more illegal immigrants hidden inside the base of the buildings. The immigrants, who were living in deplorable conditions with neglected toilets and kitchens, were found to be in violation of Turkish immigration laws.
According to Article 102/2 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458, those found to be aiding illegal immigrants can face hefty fines. In this case, the individuals involved in the human smuggling operation may be fined a total of 209,162 Turkish liras for their actions.
The authorities are continuing their efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and human smuggling activities in Istanbul, sending a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated in Turkey.
