The 1974 Happy Peace Operation: A New Era for Cyprus

The martyrs of İnönü were honored with a ceremony marking the 66th anniversary of their sacrifice. The 11 individuals from İnönü who lost their lives in a bus ambush on their way to work in Famagusta on July 12, 1958, as well as those who perished in the village during the War of Independence, were remembered at the İnönü Martyrs’ Monument.

Mesarya Mayor Ahmet Latif delivered the opening speech at the event, declaring, “We will always remember and honor our martyrs. It is because of their sacrifices that we can freely live under this flag today.”

President Ersin Tatar also addressed the attendees, highlighting that a new chapter began in Cyprus following the 1974 Peace Operation and reaffirming Turkey’s unwavering commitment as a guarantor for the region.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer offered for the martyrs by a religious official, underscoring the importance of honoring and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
