The Beginning of Conscription: First Draft
The first draft of conscript military service in the capital city is currently underway for the third day. This year’s draft is being conducted openly, allowing parents and families of young people entering the military commission to directly observe the recruitment process.
One notable aspect of this year’s draft is the focus on the physical health of the recruits. There have been cases of young people being disqualified from the military due to neglecting their physical well-being. In order to support their health, various activities have been organized. As a result, as of May, 24.6 percent of the young people who were drafted in the previous year have shown improvements in their health and are now eligible to re-enlist if they choose to do so.
It is important to note that students were not drafted for conscription this year, but they have the option to volunteer for service. The conscription process is taking place in six districts of central Ulaanbaatar, with 87 percent of the military summons notices already distributed.
Overall, this year’s draft process is aiming to ensure that recruits are physically fit and ready for service, while also providing a transparent and open environment for families to be involved in the recruitment process.
