The Changing Global Landscape: Speaker Kurtulmuş on the Shift from Bipolarity
Turkey’s Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Kurtulmuş, recently met with representatives of Turkish non-governmental organizations in Switzerland to discuss Turkey’s agenda at the 149th General Assembly meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The meeting took place at the Consulate General of Turkey in Geneva, in a hall dedicated to the diplomat Mehmet Savaş Yergüz, who was martyred by the terrorist organization Asala.
During the meeting, Kurtulmuş highlighted the ongoing struggle against terrorist organizations and emphasized the importance of preventing Turkey from being hindered in its regional power and global influence. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by Turkey in proxy wars and the challenges posed by terrorist propaganda.
Kurtulmuş noted that the world is transitioning from a bipolar or unipolar order to a multipolar one, with multiple power centers emerging in different regions. He stressed the importance of Turkey’s strength and unity as a state and nation in navigating these changing global dynamics.
The Speaker also highlighted Turkey’s proactive and principled foreign policy approach, which aims to connect with nations worldwide and support oppressed peoples. He emphasized the need for strong national presence abroad, urging Turkish associations, foundations, and NGOs to strengthen their initiatives.
The meeting was attended by several Turkish MPs and diplomats, including AK Party and MHP representatives, as well as Turkey’s Ambassador to Bern and Consul General in Geneva. The discussions reflected Turkey’s commitment to promoting its national interests and global influence in a rapidly evolving world order.
