President Ersin Tatar Attends Anatolian Culture Festival in Famagusta
President Ersin Tatar recently visited the 7th Regional Anatolian Culture Festival, which was held in collaboration with Famagusta Municipality and the Anadolu Neighborhood Mukhtar’s Office. The event aimed to celebrate and preserve Anatolian culture in the Maraş Region of Famagusta.
During his visit, President Tatar expressed his delight in taking part in an event that aims to keep Anatolian culture alive in the region. He emphasized the significance of Anatolia for Turkish Cypriots, stating that “Anatolia is Turkey, Turkey is the Motherland.”
President Tatar also reflected on the historical significance of Anatolia in the context of Turkish Cypriot history. He highlighted the crucial role played by Mehmetçik and the Mujahideen in bringing freedom and independence to the Turkish Cypriots, especially in the period between 1963 and 1974. Tatar also commemorated the innocent civilian Turkish Cypriots who were victims of violence before 1974.
As the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation approaches on July 20, President Tatar reiterated the importance of this date in the history of the Turkish Cypriot community. He emphasized that it was after 1974 that cultures from Anatolia and the South merged, emphasizing the necessity of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
President Tatar also addressed the ongoing negotiations regarding the status of Cyprus, emphasizing the need for recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of Turkish Cypriots. He expressed support for a solution policy based on cooperation between the two states, with the backing of the Republic of Turkey.
