
The Driving Force of the TRNC Economy: Tourism

The “Adakibris Tourism Meeting” was recently held in Northern Cyprus in collaboration with the Deputy Prime Minister, Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Ministry, Turkish Cypriot Travel Agencies Association (Kıtsab), and Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB).
The event took place at Acapulco Hotel in Kyrenia and was attended by Prime Minister Ünal Üsel, Deputy Prime Minister, Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, as well as various representatives from the tourism industry. During the joint press conference, important speeches were made highlighting the growth and development of tourism in Northern Cyprus.
Prime Minister Ünal Üsel emphasized the historical significance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the constant struggle for existence. He mentioned the challenges faced by the Turkish Cypriot community and the support they have received from Turkey over the years. Despite past conflicts, peace was finally achieved on the island in 1974, leading to the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoglu discussed the importance of tourism in the TRNC and its impact on the economy. He highlighted the efforts to attract more tourists to the region and the challenges faced in promotional activities due to actions by Southern Cyprus.
TÜRSAB President Firuz Bağlıkaya emphasized the importance of Cyprus as a family holiday destination and the need for collaborative efforts to promote this aspect of tourism. Kıtsab President Orhan Tolun and KITOB President Dimağ Çağıner also shared their thoughts on the event and the significance of showcasing the diverse tourism offerings in Northern Cyprus.
