The Eager Wait for Increased Pension Payments: Will They Arrive This Month?
New Legislation to Provide Additional Raises for Retirees
After being accepted in the General Assembly of the Parliament, the additional raise regulation for retirees is now awaiting approval from President Erdoğan. Once approved, it will come into force by being published in the Official Gazette. The question on everyone’s minds now is, will the additional raise regulation become law within this month?
SSK retirees started receiving their salaries on the 17th of the month. The lowest pension has received 7,500 TL, while the highest pension saw an increase of 37.57 percent based on the inflation difference. However, retirees receiving the minimum pension of 10,000 TL did not receive the full increase, and those receiving higher than the minimum pension did not get the full percentage increase. So, when will the difference of 2,500 TL for those with the lowest pension and the 5-point increase difference for those with higher salaries be deposited into their accounts?
Certified Public Accountant and Economist Muhammet Bayram addressed these questions in his recent statements to milliyet.com.tr. He explained that the minimum pension and additional raises must be enacted by law, and it was accepted by the Planning and Budget Commission last week. Therefore, the expectation is for this regulation to become law in the coming weeks.
Bayram also clarified that retirees have not received their additional increase at this time. The 5-point difference will be deposited into their accounts after the regulation becomes law. Those receiving the lowest pension will see a raise of 2,500 TL once the law is enacted.
The Planning and Budget Commission approved the additional increase last week, and it is expected to become law. If it does not become law during the current period, the differences will be deposited at the beginning of next month. However, Bayram is optimistic that the additional raises will be paid during the current salary period.
Regarding the issue of root salaries, Bayram expressed concern about the lack of regulation in this area. He highlighted the need for an arrangement to ensure that proportional increases fully reflect in salaries. Bayram expects that we will see a resolution to this issue in the coming periods.
The current hope is that the new increases will come into effect this month. However, even if the regulation is not enacted during this period, the differences can potentially be deposited before the next month’s salary schedule.
It remains to be seen when the additional raise regulation will become law, but retirees are hopeful that the changes will be implemented soon. In the meantime, the discussions continue on how to address the issue of root salaries and ensure fair and proportional increases for all retirees.
