The Full Story of Ekrem İmamoğlu’s Arrest: Statement, Court Referral, and Decision
The Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu, has been at the center of a recent controversy after being arrested for alleged corruption. Imamoğlu was detained for 4 days and faced hours of questioning before being released from the allegation of helping terrorism.
A total of 106 names were involved in the investigation, including Imamoğlu’s right-hand man and several other officials and business people. The operation took place early on Wednesday morning, leading to multiple arrests.
After the detention, Imamoğlu was taken to court where tensions ran high between lawyers and police. He underwent interrogation in relation to both terrorism and corruption charges.

Following the arrests, the Ministry of Interior announced the dismissal of Imamoğlu and Çalık from their positions. The Municipal Assembly will convene to elect new officials in their place.
