“The Hunger Threshold for a Family of Four is 24,268 TL” – BRTK

The Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KTAMS) has recently announced the hunger limit for a family of four, which stands at 24,268 TL as of Friday, May 31st.

According to Union President Güven Bengihan, the calculation of the hunger limit was based on the nutritional requirements for a healthy diet for a family of four, as provided by the Inpatient Treatment Institutions Department of the Ministry of Health. The prices of essential food items were also considered, with data provided by the Statistical Institute.

In a statement, Bengihan highlighted the specific daily and monthly food expenditure required for different members of a family, for example, 208.13 TL per day and 6,243.90 TL per month for an adult woman, and 217.62 TL per day and 6,528.60 TL per month for an adult male.

Furthermore, Bengihan pointed out that the monthly food expenditure, also known as the hunger limit, for a family of four to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, is estimated to be 24,268 TL.

The announcement comes amidst concerns over rising inflation, with official figures from the Statistical Institute showing an inflation rate of 3.50 percent in May and a total of 27.98 percent in the first five months of the year. The annual inflation rate was reported at 95.37 percent, emphasizing the challenges faced by families in meeting basic needs.
