The Importance of Health Insurance in Hotels for Reliable Tourism
The sudden death of Turkish artist Volkan Konak in a hotel has once again brought attention to the lack of adequate health services in the tourism sector in the country. The Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB) released a statement highlighting the dangers of inadequate equipment and health personnel in hotels, especially in crowded and high-standard establishments.
The KTTB urged the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment to establish minimum health standards in hotels and develop emergency protocols to ensure the safety of guests. Despite raising concerns in the past, no concrete regulations or initiatives have been put in place to address this issue.
The statement emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Health to implement necessary arrangements within the existing ‘Hotels Regulation’. This includes ensuring that all hotels have personnel trained in first aid, equipped infirmaries, and professional health teams capable of providing full interventions in emergency situations.
The KTTB stressed that the primary goal of the tourism sector should be to protect human life, and called for immediate action from relevant authorities. They offered their support in contributing to any regulations aimed at improving health services in hotels, while expressing condolences for the loss of Volkan Konak.
As discussions continue on how to improve health services in the tourism sector, it is clear that urgent measures need to be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
